“Peanuts” – Free Thanksgiving Morning Showing at Village Theatre

the-peanuts-movie-social“You blockhead! I should have known. What kind of a person tries to fly a kite in the middle of winter? You will never get that kite to fly. Why? Because you’re Charlie Brown!” -Lucy in Peanuts

After 35 years, the Peanuts gang is finally back with another movie. Charlie Brown is still dealing with Lucy’s insults, the neighbor kids still find him a misfit, and Snoopy is still his best friend — most of the time.

At the beginning of the movie, a new kid (the Little Red-Haired Girl) moves into the neighborhood. Charlie Brown is immediately smitten, but his attempts to impress and get close to her lead to a comedy of errors. They do, however, inspire Snoopy and Woodstock to write a novel about the Flying Ace’s daring attempts to save a lovely pilot named Fifi, and Snoopy vs. the Red Baron’s flying adventures are a large part of the movie. Eventually the movie comes full circle, Snoopy gets his girl, and Charlie Brown finally works up his courage to talk to the Little Red-Haired Girl, who delivers a touching message about loving people for who they really are.

I took my four-year-old daughter to see the movie at Village Theatre. We joined a crowd of kids and grandparents, all of whom appeared to enjoy the story, but seemed to find it somewhat long by the end. As for my daughter, she reported her favorite thing was “the Little Red-Haired Girl” and her favorite part was “the fair at the end with the cotton candy and the bouncy house.” Something for everyone!
