Coronado’s Police Chief is Taking the Plunge to Raise Money for Special Olympics

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 11.50.37 AMOn May 22, Police Chief Jon Froomin will participate in his third consecutive Plunge for Special Olympics. The event had previously been called a Polar Plunge; however, it has been changed to more realistically describe the event.

Law enforcement personnel and supporters will plunge into various bodies of water around the United States all to raise money to support their charity of choice, Special Olympics.

For the third year, Aquatica Sea World is hosting the event at their water park in Chula Vista. The fundraising goal for the event is $50,000.

Special Olympics provides year round sports training and competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The program teaches sportsmanship, leadership, independence, inclusion, and physical fitness. It is free to all participants due to the generous donations of sponsoring groups and individuals, such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raised over $50 million internationally last year.

Chief Froomin has a fundraising web page through which members of the community can sponsor his Plunge. Chief Froomin has been supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run for 13 years, is a games management team member in Northern California and San Diego, and serves on the San Diego Regional Leadership Council for Special Olympics.

Let’s help Chief Froomin become the top individual fundraiser for this year’s Plunge.
