Minecraft Camps at the Rec!

minecraftIf your child loves Minecraft, there is a hands-on opportunity for them to build construction projects out of real 3-D cubes this summer in the Recreation Department’s Mine, Craft, Build Engineering Fundamentals Camp. From August 1-5 they will bring Minecraft to life by using LEGO pieces to build motorized walking Creepers, terrifying Ghast and motorized Minecarts. The Mine, Craft, Build Engineering Fundamentals Camp will get participants ages 7 – 12 to explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture as they build their favorite Minecraft objects at the community center.

Instead of just playing the video game, this summer pre-teen and teen Minecraft fans will get to create their own Minecraft mods! During the weeks of July 18-22, August 1-5 and August 8-12, participants in the Minecraft Modding Camp will add their own content to the game using the professional text-based coding language of Java. This is the chance for modders ages 9-14 to interact in the Minecraft word by “crafting a sword out of mushy bananas” or “spawning a flying golden cow!”

Minecraft Modding and Mine, Craft, Build Engineering Fundamentals Camp are just two of the sixteen different Lego engineering and video gaming camps offered throughout the summer by the Coronado Recreation Department. For more information or to register for any of the MineCraft Camps, check out the website at www.coronado.ca.us or call (619) 522-7342.
